The USCFL's answer to the Super Bowl is known as "The Go for the Gold
Game".
Our League is divided into two conferences, the Atlantic Conference and
the Pacific Conference. Each conference is further divided into two
divisions; for the Atlantic Conference, those divisions are known as
the Northern and the Southern Divisions, while the Pacific Conference
has the Central and the Western Divisions. Each year, each division
champion and eight wild card teams (four from each conference) square
off
in the League's playoffs. All four division champions get a first round
bye. The first week of the
post-season is the wild card weekend. The winners of the wild card
games then advance to play the division champions in the Conference
semi-finals, the winners of which advance to the Conference
Championship game. The Conference Champions then meet each other in the
Go for the Gold. In the early years of this League, there was
year-round play, meaning that there could be as many as four Go for
the Gold games in a single year and a champion's reign was only for
three months. Then in 1988, the schedule was arranged so
there were only two seasons in any one calendar year. The League
adopted its current one season per calendar year in 1994. Below is a
listing of the Go for the Gold winning and losing teams through the
years.
