DISNEY WINS ATLANTIC CONFERENCE TITLE!
MASTERS OF POWER LOSES ON A 32
POINT 4TH QUARTER SCORING SPREE BY DISNEY
(ORLANDO, Florida.) As a unified team, the Masters of Power
have never made it to the conference championship, however when they
were single teams, She-Ra's team last made it this far back in January
1995 before they merged with He-Man later that year. Ironically She-Ra
lost to another Florida team at the time. As for Disney, they are
conference champions for only the third time in their 26 year history
in the USCFL. Disney will now see with the rest of us who they will
face in Go For The Gold XLVI on August 15th.
In the early going of the game however, The Masters of Power had the
momentum as She-Ra connected with Teela twice within the first five
minutes of the game. Disney looked like they couldn't do anything right
and caused a bunch of turnovers and mistakes in the first half. Disney
got on the board late in the first quarter on a 42 yard pass from
Mickey Mouse to Minnie Mouse to trail 14-7 after the first quarter.
After Ariel AKA The Little Mermaid kicked a field goal to pull within
four points early in the second quarter, The Masters of Power stretched
the lead to eleven on a fumble recovery by fullback Bow after he
tackled Timon of The Lion King off of a punt return. There was a
controversial play late in the quarter when Mickey Mouse threw a second
touchdown pass to Minnie Mouse. Masters of Power cornerback Shadow
Weaver was penalized for pass interference in the end zone and instead
of declining the penalty that would have let the touchdown stand,
Disney accepted the penalty which put the ball on the one yard line. On
the next play, Mickey Mouse threw another pass in the end zone and
Trap-Jaw intercepted the pass for a touchback and had the ball placed
on the twenty yard line. One the next play, She-Ra threw her third
touchdown pass to Teela on an 80 yard bomb for the longest pass she
threw all season to take a commanding 28-10 lead into halftime.
The momentum was with The Masters of Power all throughout the first
half and were hoping it would continue into the second half. But
Disney's explosive defense had something else to say about that. Disney
came back to life in the third quarter as Mickey Mouse connected with
Dewey one of Donald Duck's nephews to pull within eleven points early
in the third quarter. An Ariel field goal put Disney within striking
distance to possibly tie the game. She-Ra threw her fourth touchdown
pass to Glimmer to forge ahead again by fifteen points. Then Sheriff
Woody took the ball in for a score from six yards out to pull within
eight to trail 35-27 after the third quarter.
Trailing in the final quarter, Disney's dangerous defense showed their
fangs and caused one the biggest turnarounds in USCFL history. After
Adora kicked a field early in the quarter and Shadow Weaver returned an
interception for a touchdown to lead 45-27 with over five minutes to
play in the game, The Masters of Power were poised to go on to Boston
at that point. However no one knew what was to come next. Disney went
on an incredible scoring spree. Within two minutes, they went from
trailing by eighteen points to leading by six. Disney's defense caused
turnover after turnover which resulted in thirty-two unanswered
points. First Mickey Mouse threw the first of two touchdown passes to
Kim Possible and then within eight seconds, Pocahontas and Lilo scored
off of two Masters of Power fumble recoveries, which was followed by the second
touchdown pass to Kim Possible with 3:40 left to play in the game.
The Masters of Power did have a chance to tie the game but after what
they witnessed and experienced, it caused the whole team to totally
shut down. Ariel capped off the onslaught with one last field goal to
win 59-45 for their third Atlantic Conference title. The Masters of
Power also deserve a round of applause as they provided fans with a
fantastic season. Ten players from The Masters of Power will represent
The Atlantic Conference in the Labor Day All-Star Game in which eight
players will be starters.
This game will go down as one of the biggest playoff games ever played,
in addition the game also set a record as both teams committed a total
of twenty-eight turnovers, the most in a game ever. Mickey Mouse and
She-Ra combined for twenty-one interceptions, the other seven were
caused by fumbles. As Tinker Bell pointed out, that this was a game that
Disney shouldn't have won because of the mental errors. But then again
some would think The Masters of Power shouldn't have won either with
that point of logic. In football, the only stat that really counts is
the number of points are up on the scoreboard. Every other stat is
mainly window dressing. Sure it's interesting to see how each player
does statistically but it is what's on the scoreboard that counts the
most.
Lost in all the excitement of this contest was the fact that this was
the final home game in Orlando for three of Disney's players; starting
defensive end Captain Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of the Caribbean
movies, reserve linebacker Princess Aurora, a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty, and
reserve defensive end Hannah Montana. All three will be heading
cross-country to star with the new Disney West team next year. Sparrow
will reprise his role as Disney West's starting defensive end, Aurora will become their new starting QB, and Montana will be their reserve wide receiver.
Later today, The Jim Henson All-Stars
and The TV Ad All-Stars will face each other for the Pacific Conference
Championship and earn the right to face Disney in two weeks for the
USCFL Championship and claim the Walt Disney Memorial Trophy. We hope
you'll join us!
